Organic acids improve the digestibility of protein and energy by acting on the gut microbiota and reducing the competition of bacteria, so shrimp and fish fed with organic acid supplementation reach billions: survival rates and higher growth rates.
The process of Acidification in the shrimp digestive tract makes the growth of gram-positive bacteria, which inhibit the growth of other bacterial pathogens. Therefore, when mixed organic acid uses in shrimp feed, pH will decrease and stop the replication of vibrio spp bacteria in the intestinal tract. Naturally, the intestinal tract of shrimp has a neutral pH. When feeding shrimp, the pH in the gut will drop from 4-5 until the vibrio can not stand it. Besides, this mixture also created changes on the surface of the intestinal wall, making vibrio spp less able to attach and multiply.
